New Site
|
Champions MUSH has finally found a new, permanent home, on a
professional web and MU* hosting site,
Dune Internet. The address is now cm2051.dune.net
6363 or tangent.dune.net 6363 (either should work).
Tell your friends! Put the word out! Champions MUSH is alive
again!

Site problems continue
|
Our site problems continue. You may be asking, "Why aren't they moving
to a better site?" The answer is, we are trying. I have submitted an
application with dune.net to host us, and I expect it will eventually
be accepted, but I did so at the end of the week, and this is a
holiday weekend. Hopefully some time soon we will have our site up and
running (reliably, finally) on dune.net, but I can't do anything until
they send me confirmation that our account has been approved. So just
hang tight and be patient. We apologize for the inconvenience, but
there's just nothing we can do until either the old site comes back up
for good, or the new one comes through and lets us set things up.

Site Back Up
|
Our site is back up -- at least for now. The admins are currently looking
into finding a more permanent, stable site (probably at dune.net). Stay
tuned to this web page for updates, especially if there are more
service interruptions before we can change sites.

Site Status Update
|
Apparently, Ben, the guy who runs our machine and site for us, is having
problems with his cable connection. He is going to attempt to bring the
MUSH back up tonight at 7 PM CDT. Meanwhile, we are searching for alternate
hosting sites so this will not happen again. Stay tuned to this web page
for information, and again, please do not e-mail the admins with questions
about the site being down... as soon as we know anything, it will be
posted here.

Host Machine Down
|
As far as we can tell, the host machine that runs CM is down (there's
no route to the host). We honestly have no more information than you
do at the moment. The site is down for some reason, and we don't know
why, nor do we know when it will return. If this continues for very
long, we will try to find an alternative site, but for the moment, we
ask you to sit tight and please check this website for
information. Do not e-mail the admins. We can't answer your
questions about the site right now, and as soon as we know anything
definitive, we will post it here.

Staff Changes
|
We've had multiple staff changes in the last few weeks, and the final
hirings were finalized this week. Leaving our ranks in mid-April were
Fate, the former theme head, and Happenstance, another
member of the theme department. Also departing last week was
Muse, one of our GMs. They have been succeeded by
Daetrin and Box on themestaff, and Hangman in the
GM department. Also, to help speed application reviews along,
Twilight, formerly a GM, has moved into the Theme
department. Christopher is now the head of the Theme department.

Server patched: 1.7.4-patch03
|
We've upgraded to PennMUSH-1.7.4-patch03 -- the most recent patch-level
of the current stable version of PennMUSH. As a side note, we have
also expanded the +bg command so that players can read each other's
BGs. You get to decide if you want your BG public or not, and if so, other
people can then read it.

Staff Reorganization
|
Two staff members have departed from Champions MUSH. Unfortunately, both
were in the Theme department, which takes care of PC approvals. This
amounts to half the department, and leaves us with only 2 approval
staff members. Therefore, we are looking for new theme staff members
if you are interested. It also means that until we hire a few more
people, the approval process will be slower than normal. Several
other staff members are pitching in, but we still need to
ask you to be patient.

Server Upgrade: 1.7.4-p2
|
CM has upgraded to the newest patch of the current stable version of
PennMUSH... patch 2. Patch 2 fixes some bugs and adds a bit of needed
functionality to some new commands such as the follow command.
The server was shut down and rebooted to finish applying the pach,
on Fri Apr 6 14:07:08 2001 EDT (aka. MUSH time). Enjoy!

+weather disabled
|
I have disabled the +weather command until further notice. This
command was written by Lika. The command itself worked fine, but
weather was updated by a bot called "WeatherBot", that was some sort
of external program sitting on another machine. After Lika passed
away I knew it was just a matter of time before the bot gave out. As
far as I know, the bot's still out there -- but it's trying to log
into the old site, which no longer exists. As I have no way of
altering the Bot's behaviour, it can't ever log into CM again... so I
have deleted weatherbot, and the +weather command is gone for
now.

New Site Becomes Permanent
|
|
Champions MUSH has officially, permanently moved to our new home. The address is:
swwfm.com 2000
The database from Tuesday the 27th could not be retrieved, and thus the database
that we moved from Microgate to the new host machine on Sunday is now the
official database of the MUSH. Also, we are now running PennMUSH 1.7.4-p1.

Router/Host problems
|
Once again our old host, Microgate, appears to be having networking problems. There is
no indication when, or if, the problem will be fixed. A slightly older database
(from 3/25) is currently running on the new site, swwfm.com, port 2000.
You are welcome to connect there, just realize that when we get the old site
back (if we do), that database will take precedence.

MUSH Moving!
|
|
Take note: As of 1 April 2001, the MUSH is going to be moving from Microgate
to a (hopefully permanent) home on swwfm.com. The host site is the primary server for
another MUSH, Ways of the Force, which Steven, the CM Head-wiz, has worked on
as an admin and written much of the codebase for. They are doing us a favor, but
it should not be a problem. Please note that there may be some shuffling and a few
days of connection wierdness until both WFM and CM get moved successfully to the new
site. The expected date of the move is 31 March 2001. The new address will be:
swwfm.com, port 2000
Note that at the time of the move, we will be upgrading to PennMUSH 1.7.4-patch 1
(from patch 0).

Host/Router problems solved

The router that went down near Microgate has been fixed, and we are back online.

Host/Router problems
|
At the moment, our host machine, box1.microgate.net, appears to be down and
unreachable. It's impossible to tell whether the machine has stopped working,
or whether there is just a router down close to the microgate nexus. In either
case, it's unlikely that we will hear from the microgate people until the problem
is fixed, for the simple reason that if their host machine or routers are down
they can neither send nor receive e-mail (and once they can, it will mean the
problem is fixed, and we won't need to hear from them anymore...). Please bear
with us and be patient until the router/host is back up. Backup copies were made
of the database last week before the shift to Penn 1.7.4, so no matter what happens,
little data will be lost.

Server Upgraded
|
The PennMUSH server has been upgraded from the previous stable version,
1.7.2p33, to the current (newest) stable version, 1.7.4p0. Tons of added
functionality is available in this new minor version of the server, including
@malias, wrap(), and follow. The MUSH help files explain
the details.

+HELP files updated
|
The +help files have been updated to include +RUMOR in the list of general
MUSH +commands (+help general), and +rumor now has its own file
listed under +help +rumor. The bbposts about +rumor have been removed now
that it has been incorporated into the general MUSH help file system.

+MEDIA system reinstated
|
After a 3-month hiatus, the +media system is back. The author
+bylines for news articles (+bylines) have been amended to reflect
the new generation of news reporters. Creator, our building XO staffer, has
kindly agreed to be the front man on +media. All the old commands
work just the way they always did. Help is available in +help +media.

Web Site Updated
|
This very page, which describes the changes made to the MUSH or the MUSH
website, was added today. I've also added some earlier changes that were
made before I thought of doing this page, just for the sake of completeness.
Obviously, very old changes are not going to be included here. Just things since
the first of the year (and the start of the "new" Champions MUSH).

New command: +RUMOR
|
Stormfront added a new global command, +rumor. With +rumor/add, you can add a
rumor to the MUSH. With +rumor, you can (twice a day) check out one of the rumors
that the other people on the MUSH have added. Stormy also started us off with 10
or so nifty rumors.

+LEGWORK command added
|
A new command, +legwork, added by Stormfront:
+legwork submit < title > = < text > will submit a
+legwork request: what is your character looking into or trying to
investigate during the day? The < title > should mention what
it's relevant to, and the < text > should spell it out in
detail. Sometimes, the staff gets in here in the morning, still in
their bathrobes, haven't had their morning coffee yet, trust me --
it's not a pretty sight...

Applications officially accepted
|
As of this date, Champions MUSH has officially re-opened its doors and begun
accepting new applications for PCs in the world of Champions MUSH, AD 2051.
Note that although we will eventually allow 2 PCs per player, until everyone has
one approved PC, we will not be accepting people's alts. Check out the
MUSH bulletin boards or this site for updates.
